A woman was killed January 12 in an ATV crash in the Northwest Arctic community of Noatak. Troopers say 36-year-old Georgia Onalik was operating the vehicle with an male passenger when it crashed on Willow Street.

Residents took both riders to the village clinic. Onalik was declared dead and the other passenger was transported to Kotzebue to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers haven’t determined how the crash happened, but a spokesman said speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
