A search and rescue crew from the Northwest Arctic Borough recovered the body of a man missing in a boating accident earlier this week. According to trooper dispatch, the body of 30-year-old Brandon Sheldon of Kiana was found up-river from the community of Noorvik around 8:45 a.m., Friday.

Sheldon was the sole fatality after a boat carrying five people capsized on the Kobuk River.

Dozens of volunteers from near-by communities including Alaska State and wildlife troopers, and a Search and Rescue team from the Tanana Chiefs Conference were involved in the multi-day search. A representative from the Northwest Arctic Borough thanked the community of Noorvik and volunteers for their efforts in the search.
