30-year-old Brandon Swan and 39-year-old Austin Swan Jr. were convicted on May 24 in a Kotzebue court for the 2019 sexual assault of two women in Kivalina. The two men are not immediately related to each other.

Prosecutors say the assault occurred after Brandon Swan invited the victims to his house in April of 2019. According to charging documents, the victims said both Swans took turns sexually assaulting them, which the men denied.

In the days following the assault, the victims were transported to Kotzebue for a medical exam. A state crime lab analyst found that samples from one of the victims matched the DNA profile of Austin Swan Jr. Both men have prior felony charges including assault.

A sentencing trial is scheduled for November 19th in Kotzebue. Both men face a maximum sentence of 198 years in prison.
