The Kotzebue Police Department is investigating several fires that have burned in the last few weeks.

According to a city press release on Aug.17, Kotzebue Fire Department responded to a shipping container fire early last Friday. The burning container belonging to Kotzebue resident Lance Kramer was located just a few hundred yards from large fuel tanks owned by Crowley Fuels Alaska. Kramer said he believed the fire might have been started intentionally. The cause of the fire is unknown and police are investigating.

According to the release, KFD responded to a second fire on Otter Street on Wednesday around 9 AM. Firefighters extinguished a blaze in an abandoned house. The cause of that fire is also unknown and under investigation.
