Position Announcement:

Kotzebue Broadcasting Inc. General Manager

Kotzebue Broadcasting Inc. is recruiting a general manager to run a dynamic organization that provides communications service to listeners throughout Northwest Alaska and beyond. You are invited to join our community-oriented, public radio station and help us develop and grow our communications network to deliver news, music and public affairs programming. KOTZ-AM and KINU-FM are owned by Kotzebue Broadcasting Inc. (KBI) which own an AM transmitter and extensive translator and low power FM network serving the NW Arctic Borough (NWAB) that includes Kotzebue and a dozen other villages, also via Facebook and the internet.

The successful applicant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of all KBI facilities.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate KBI staff and volunteers.
  • Provide all necessary support to keep the board of directors informed and engaged in the corporation’s business operations.
  • Develop, propose, and manage annual budgets.
  • Play a principal role in fundraising and acquiring funding for the station.
  • Manage federal, state, grants and contracts and regulations as required.
  • Ensure that the station’s FCC license is in order.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience, preferably in public broadcasting with three years in broadcast management (equivalent management experience may be considered).
  • Demonstrated competence with all aspects of radio management including programming, facilities maintenance, relevant technology, fundraising, grant administration, promotion, and on-air work.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise funds from numerous sources, including individuals, private industry/business, foundations, and government.

Deadline: Open until filled, with initial screening on May 15, 2026.

Salary: Salary range begins at $60,000.
